Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG (LBB AG) posted a slight loss of CHF 53,761 in the 2020/21 financial year. Compared to the previous year, which was shortened due to the early end of the season, traffic revenue rose by 3.9% to CHF 27.3 million. At over CHF 2.5 million, LBB AG achieved record sales in summer 2020.
A year with ups and downs
Peter Engler, CEO of Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG (LBB AG) until the end of June 2021, describes the 2020/21 business year as "a year of highs and lows" in the annual report published today. The highlight was the record summer of 2020. Compared to the already strong previous year, summer traffic revenue rose by another 26% to over CHF 2.5 million. First-time admissions to the Lenzerheide biking and hiking area increased from 170,000 to 230,000.
Those responsible at LBB AG consider the great uncertainties regarding the winter season, especially at the beginning, to be the low point. However, the good weather, the abundance of natural snow and the high number of Swiss guests in the Lenzerheide holiday region ultimately ensured a solid conclusion to the season. The winter traffic revenue of LBB AG rose by around 2% to CHF 24.75 million. With 1.2 million first-time admissions, the Arosa Lenzerheide snow-sport region recorded an increase of 4.3% compared to the previous year, but remained below the peak value of the 2018/19 winter season with 1.3 million.
Compared to the previous year 2019/20, traffic revenue increased by 3.9% to just under CHF 27.3 million. On the other hand, operating expenses increased by CHF 1.8 million due to costs in connection with the pandemic and the staging of the FIS Ski World Cup Final Lenzerheide. Under the circumstances, the annual result shows a small loss of CHF 53,761. EBITDA fell by 5.7% to around CHF 9.5 million, which corresponds to an EBITDA margin of 30.06%.
New peaks in online sales
The development of online sales can also be considered a highlight of the 2020/21 business year. Even before the pandemic, LBB AG recorded a strong growth rate due to the introduction of dynamic rates, which was increased again in the past financial year. On average, 73% of tickets were purchased online, with up to 90% of guests using online tickets on the slopes on the peak days over Christmas and New Year.
«LIGHT RIDE» a complete success
The new «LIGHT RIDE» offer generated a peak value, and not only in online sales. The new multi-sensory tobogganing experience at the Scharmoin sledge run attracted over 14,000 guests from mid-January.
Annual general meeting with Covid certificate
The 16th General Assembly of LBB AG will take place on Friday, 24 September 2021 in the multi-purpose hall at the Lenzerheide school building. To ensure the physical presence of over 250 participants, the general assembly will be held with access via Covid certificate (recovered, tested or vaccinated).
