Additional Covid-19 measures and full operation from Saturday, 18 December 2021

The mountain railway industry is aware of the difficult epidemiological situation and is voluntarily introducing new measures for safe winter operations from 18 December 2021. In addition to the current regulations such as mandatory masks in closed cabins and distance indoors, capacity restrictions will now apply in large cabins with standing room.

In the past winter season, the mountain railways made it possible to experience recreation and nature, which had a positive effect on the physical and mental condition of the guests. This year, too, the industry is endeavouring to guarantee safe winter operations with uniform national regulations. After all, the safety of guests and employees is the top priority for mountain railway operators.

Cable cars are a means of transport and therefore, until now, the same protective measures applied as in public transport. These include the obligation to wear face-coverings (MNS) in enclosed spaces, distance indoors and ventilation of the gondolas. From 18 December 2021, the large gondola lifts (with a capacity of over 25 people with standing room only) will only be used to 70% capacity. In the Arosa Lenzerheide ski area, these are the Arosa-Weisshorn 1st and 2nd section aerial cableway, the Urdenbahn and Rothorn 2nd section. The increased frequency of the cable cars at 10-minute intervals, including shuttle service for larger numbers of guests, ensures good distribution without crowding.

In addition, orderly queuing with the appropriate spacing regulations will again be organized in the outdoor area. Outdoors as well as on the open railway facilities (chairlifts, skilifts) there is no obligation to wear an MNS, wearing one is voluntary. With the «Good morning Arosa» programme, the Tschuggen Ost chairlift, the Kulm gondola, the Tomeli skilift and the Brüggerhorn chairlift with the «Balck Diamond Slope» – awarded as the world's best black slope in 2021 – are in operation and promise early risers an attractive offer. The Arosa Lenzerheide ski area is aware of its responsibility and will ensure that the measures are implemented consistently. This also includes certificate checks in the mountain restaurants.

The Arosa Lenzerheide ski area will be able to open more facilities and slopes and will begin full daily operation on 18 December 2021. The comprehensive range of facilities and pistes creates space and guarantees an optimal distribution of guests.

The mountain railways' employees have been able to push ahead with the construction of the snow-sport region in the last few days. In addition to the facilities and slopes already open, the other facilities - apart from the Carmenna and Cumascheals chairlifts and the Grappa Grossa skilift - will also start operating.

First full moon skiing on the Brüggerhorn
The weather prospects look good for the first full moon skiing on the Brüggerhorn on Saturday evening, 18 December. The Arosa-Weisshorn 1st section aerial cableway will run from 7.00 to 8.00 pm, the Brüggerhorn chairlift until 9.00 pm. The Sattelhütte is open until 11.00 pm.
