Registration tool open for the Swiss Orienteering Week 2021 in Arosa
The world-famous orienteering event takes place every two to three years and attracts up to 3,000 enthusiastic orienteering runners with accompanying persons to Switzerland. Thus, Arosa will be completely dedicated to the sport of orienteering in one year. The event is mainly attended by experienced orienteers, but also by athletes of the world's top orienteering teams. With the "Holiday" category, the SOW is also ideal for newcomers. People who like to be in the mountains or in nature and who enjoy their day trips running or hiking will have the perfect opportunity at the SOW 2021 to combine their hobby with a new challenge and try out the sport of orienteering.
Categories, stages and supporting programme
The mass sports event offers six days of competition with six different stages with daily classification. In all 50 age categories except the Holiday category, the times of day will be used to determine the final classification. In the category Holiday the orienteering experience and the mountain panorama are in the foreground, not the running time. The daily stages will take place in six different running areas, so that every runner gets his or her money's worth. On the first day, participants will warm up at the forest sprint around the Obersee, and the next day they will set off for the long distance on the side of Lenzerheide. The use of a chairlift is also integrated into the run. On the third day of the run, a middle distance will be completed at the Hörnli. This is followed by a rest day in order to take full advantage of the Arosa leisure facilities. The fourth stage takes orienteering enthusiasts around the Maran Hauptji. The second last stage leads to the Grüenseeli near the Furggaalp and on the last day the participants look for the best way to the finish in the Schwellisee area. The event area for the award ceremonies will be set up on the Ochsenbühl sports field and will offer a varied entertainment programme every evening with the announcement of ranks, music or lectures.
The holiday experience in Arosa
With the slogan "The Swiss O Week 2021 Arosa makes orienteering hearts beat faster" the organizing committee advertises the event next summer. This is in line with the event format of the Swiss O Week. Not only the orienteering events are in the foreground, but above all the holiday experience for the whole family. Many orienteering runners will be travelling to other orienteering events over the summer and spending their holidays in the respective event destinations. Arosa offers the perfect conditions for this. With the All-Inclusive Card, which every guest receives from one overnight stay in a hotel, a holiday apartment or on a camping site, numerous activities can be used free of charge or at a reduced price. For example, the mountain railways in Arosa Lenzerheide, the Arosa local bus, the rope park, the lido and much more. Arosa Bärenland, the first bear protection centre in Switzerland, is certainly worth a visit. It helps three bears from poor husbandry conditions to find their way back to a species-appropriate life.
